Oh, the world of MMA. Where nobody’s happy unless they’re punching someone and when it comes to judges, well that’s a different story. On June 4th, UFC Vegas 74 took place and Israel Adesanya was not feeling too thrilled about the outcome of his teammate Kai Kara-France’s fight against Amir Albazi.
For those who missed it, Kara-France lost in a close split decision with two out of three judges scoring for Albazi. And boy did Adesanya have something to say about it! He went on social media after the fight and let his thoughts be known with some scathing tweets.
So what exactly did he say? Well, here are some highlights: “Nah bro…Fuck yous!!!”, “Fire Chris Lee & Sal Deez nuts”, “I tweeted that before even seeing the scorecards because I knew them two will fuck it up!! Hoooow many times will they rob athletes of their moments of glory”. You tell ’em Adesanya! It’s about time someone held these judges accountable.
But wait there’s more! Adensaya called them c**** and thinks they should expire quickly. We can’t help but wonder if he meant this literally or figuratively – either way we’re sure karma will take care of things eventually.
Now as angry as Adensaya was over this decision, we do need to give credit where credit is due here. Kara-France actually handled the disappointment better than his teammate himself! After the fight at press conference he said that while he thought he should’ve won obviously subjective nature in judging makes it difficult sometimes.
It would be unfair not to mention how tough it must have been for him losing two consecutive fights- first an interim flyweight title shot against Brandon Moreno at UFC 277 followed by this loss too . This puts him on a rough patch right now especially since many people were expecting nothing less than excellent performance from this fighter.
On the other hand, Albazi seems to be on a roll with his fifth win in row. At UFC Vegas 74- after beating France – he called out for a title shot against Moreno/Pantoja winner which may even put him on top of flyweight division and that too is a very strong reason as to why players train hard.
So while Adensaya bashes judges for not doing their job accurately and fairly, everyone else (including us) wonders how much can we rely on these scores? Is it purely based upon subjectivity or there are certain biases at play too? Indeed they need to step up their game so fighters like Kai Kara-France don’t feel like someone stole moments of glory away from them! It’s time for these people who have such an important role in the sport start being held accountable because until then, nothing will change.
