Uganda’s Hilarious New Anti-Gay Law
Oh joyous day, folks! Uganda has just passed a new anti-gay law! And not just any old homophobic legislation – this one prescribes the death penalty for “aggravated homosexuality.” Finally, our good friends in Africa have found an effective way to combat all those pesky same-sexSponsored Product couples walking around holding hands and minding their own business.
Better Than Comedians
This new Ugandan law is better than any comedian I’ve ever seen. I mean, who needs stand-up comedy when you can just read about politicians trying to justify the killing of innocent people? One member of parliament named David Bahati even said that it was necessary to pass this bill because homosexuality poses such a huge threat to society.
Holy crap, David. You’re absolutely right! Who knows what would happen if every person in Uganda woke up one day and decided they wanted to be gay? It would be like The Walking Dead but with glitter instead of zombies!
The Penalties for Happiness
But let’s get back to the specifics of this new law, shall we? “Aggravated homosexuality” now carries a penalty of life imprisonment. Which is hilarious because what could be more aggravating than watching two people who love each other enjoy their lives?
And as I mentioned before, if you’re really gay – like super duper extra fabulous gay – then you’ll get the death penalty. How awesome is that?! If only it weren’t so tragic.

In all seriousness though, this law is a tragedy. It’s yet another example of how humans can take something beautiful – in this case, romantic and sexual love between consenting adults – and turn it into something ugly.
It also highlights how far we still have to go when it comes to equality and acceptance. And don’t even get me started on how nonsensical it is for governments to waste time and resources trying to police people’s personal lives.
A Laughable Law or Tragic Injustice?
So here’s my advice to all my LGBTQ brothers and sisters out there: keep being your fabulous selves! Keep loving who you want to love! And if you happen to live in Uganda, try not to laugh too hard at your politicians’ attempts at sounding tough while simultaneously producing legislation that reads like an episode of Monty Python!
