Oh, boy! Marriott International just pulled off the ultimate PR move. They’ve declared their intention to hire not one, not two, but wait for it…over 1,500 refugees throughout its European region by 2026. Talk about setting new goals!
Anthony Capuano,
the President and CEO of Marriott was feeling charitable on World Refugee Day when he decided to announce this grand gesture during some summit thingy called the Tent Partnership for Refugees European Business Summit. We can only imagine the excitement in the room as he dropped this bombshell.
But let’s backtrack for a second here. Let’s see what Marriott has already committed to doing in the States; oh yeah, they said they would hire over 1,500 refugees by 2025 there too. Wowza! Such generosity knows no bounds with these guys.
In his statement, Capuano said this little gem: “At Marriott International, we believe in being a force for
good and making a positive and sustainable impact in the communities where we
do business.” How virtuous of them! It’s heartwarming to see multinational corporations step up like this.
And here comes the best part; apparently, they’ve already hired over 970 refugees across Europe. Let that sink in. Nearly a thousand people who have been swept up by a global hotel chain. That must be some story to tell the grandkids.
New hiring goal aside,
Marriott went above and beyond (cue sarcasm) by launching a careers website specifically for these lucky refugees looking to snag positions at their U.S. properties. Because as everyone knows, refugees have such an easy time accessing the internet and filling out job applications…
In case you’re wondering how exactly they plan on training these new hires, well wonder no more! You see, Marriott has partnered with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) since 2016 because nothing screams hospitality quite like working with an international relief organization.
The IRC has done wonders by training almost 1,000 refugees through its Hospitality Link program thanks to…you guessed it-Marriott’s support.
