Well, well, well! The long arm of the law has finally caught up with a woman accused of highjacking a French bulldog in downtown Los Angeles last month. This isn’t just your run-of-the-mill canine caper folks. Oh no! This daring dognapping was captured on film as the poor owner clung to the hood of the getaway car like some sort of action movie stuntwoman—only her beloved dog Onyx wasn’t acting; he was being whisked away inside!
The suspect? None other than 21-year-old Sadie Slater from Los Angeles who’s now sitting pretty behind bars while detectives try to puzzle out where on earth she stashed poor Onyx.
You see, it all started when Ali Zacharias decided to have lunch at Whole Foods with her darling one-eyed blue and one-eyed green French Bulldog named Onyx (I know what you’re thinking – “Who needs TV when you’ve got a dog that looks like David Bowie reincarnated!”)
Zacharias recounts how she turned around for only a moment before realizing that someone had scooped up dear little Onyx and was making off into a waiting car—a white Kia Forte packed to bursting with four people. Like any loving pet parent would do in such circumstances, Zacharias tried desperately to stop them, even going as far as to throw herself onto the hood of the car. Unfortunately, she was soon swerved off and left with nothing but cuts, bruises, and a missing dog.
French bulldogs are not just any breed—they’re one of the most popular small-breed dogs in the world! Known for their square heads (no, they’re not blockheads), bat-like ears (nope, they can’t fly), and charming disposition (yes, you’ll fall head over heels for them). But beware: these adorable creatures have become prime targets for thieves owing to their high price tag.
Remember when Lady Gaga’s French bulldogs were stolen last year? The plot thickened when her dog walker was shot during the theft. And it didn’t stop there; 12 purebred French bulldogs including a show-stopper named Roll X were also snatched from a pet shop in Gardena recently. Seems like our four-legged friends need bodyguards now!
In typical Hollywood fashion though Slater’s freedom was short-lived. Late Friday night she found herself surrounded by officers from LAPD gang and narcotics division along with U.S Marshals’ fugitive task force. She is currently held on suspicion of robbery with bail set at $70k.
