Vitalik Buterin, the man with a plan! The co-founder of Ethereum has some big ideas for the network. In an interview with the NFT platform Defiant in Turkey, Buterin outlined his grand vision for Ethereum’s future. And let me tell you, it’s a doozy.
Staking Centralization Woes
First up on Vitalik’s hit list is staking centralization. He thinks that the current state of different staking pools is “not very healthy.” Well, no kidding! Who would have thought that putting all your eggs in one basket wouldn’t be a great idea? But hey, at least he’s finally realized it and wants to do something about it.
EIP-4844 Upgrade – Danksharding?
But wait, there’s more! Buterin also talked about the upcoming EIP-4844 upgrade called Danksharding. Yes, you read that right – Danksharding. I don’t know what kind of dank memes they’re smoking over at Ethereum HQ, but apparently this upgrade will increase the data map space to 16 Megabytes per slot. Sounds like someone’s been hitting the ol’ hash function too hard!
Off-chain Data Stuff and Plasma Ideas
In general on scaling (whatever that means), Vitalik feels like we should focus on off-chain data stuff because… well… why not? Apparently off-chain stuff gives us better security or something like that. He also mentioned some Plasma ideas and other technical jargon that went way over my head.
Democratizing Network Changes
But hold onto your hats folks because here comes another gem from Mr. Buterin – a voting system for future network changes! That’s right; he wants to democratize the process and potentially eliminate hard forks altogether. Because who needs those pesky hard forks when you can just vote on everything?
Advanced Concepts Galore
And if all of this wasn’t enough to make your head spin faster than an ASIC miner, Vitalik delved into advanced concepts like private mempools (nope, still no idea what those are), ERC-4337 (isn’t there already enough ERCs?), code pre-compilation (sounds thrilling), and Zero-Knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machines (ZK-EVMs). If any of these things sound remotely interesting or important to you then congratulations – you’re officially smarter than me!
Decentralized Servers Are So Last Year
Oh but wait… there’s more! Vitalik also wants us to reduce our dependence on centralized servers by promoting software advancements like Portal Network and Helios for a more decentralized peer-to-peer network. Because nothing says cutting-edge technology quite like going back in time to when Napster was cool.
Plasma Revisited: Now With Extra ZK-SNARKs!
Revisiting everyone’s favorite concept – Plasma – Vitalik noted its enhanced compatibility with complex systems due to integrating Zero-Knowledge Succinct Non-Interactive Arguments of Knowledge (ZK-SNARKs). Yeah… I got nothing witty here; I’m just as confused as you are.
Despite all this mind-boggling techno-jargon being thrown around left and right, Vitalik concluded with an optimistic outlook celebrating Ethereum’s successful transition to proof-of-stake while highlighting progress in scalability solutions and security advancements.
He even said “I am excited by the fact that there is finally a light at the tunnel on all
the hard things.” Which makes one wonder if he found enlightenment during his last trip through The DAO hack…
At press time ETH traded at $2k+. Whether any of these ambitious proposals will actually come into fruition remains uncertain but hey – at least we’ll always have Danksharding!
