A Utah mom has been accused of killing her husband and then celebrating the occasion by publishing a children’s book about grieving. Talk about multi-tasking! Kouri Richins, age 33, allegedly took out life insurance policies worth nearly $2 million on her unsuspecting husband from 2015 to 2017 without his knowledge or consent. Didn’t anyone tell her that honesty is always the best policy?
Kouri reportedly poisoned her hubby with fentanyl in March of this year after spiking his drink. She claimed she found him dead and unresponsive in bed but investigators smelled something rotten in Denmark – or rather, Utah – when they discovered messages between Kouri and an acquaintance discussing drugs like Michael Jackson’s favorite sedative propofol (not exactly over-the-counter medicine).
But wait, there’s more! Eric Richins apparently planned to divorce Kouri before his death so she decided to take matters into her own hands (and bank account) by becoming the sole beneficiary just three months prior to clipping him off. And if stealing nearly $134k from your significant other isn’t enough of a red flag for marriage counseling then we don’t know what is.
Greg Skordas, a spokesperson for Eric Richins’ family told CBS affiliate KUTV that despite having evidence of being attempted-poisoned multiple times by his wife, he likely stayed put for the sake of their children. Because nothing says good parenting like staying married while someone tries repeatedly to kill you!
And as if all this wasn’t bad enough already: After Eric was six feet under (thanks largely thanks to dear ol’ Mom), Kouri self-published “Are You With Me?” – a kid’s book on how to cope with losing a parent which received rave reviews akin to OJ Simpson’s attempts at literature.
All these new allegations have led Mrs.Richin’s detention hearing date postponed until June — giving everyone time to not only mourn Eric but also make fun of Kouri’s attempt at being a real-life Cruella de Vil.
