“California to Arizona Animal Relocation Program: Reptile Buffet or Just a Misunderstanding?”

Breaking news from the animal kingdom: 250 small animals that were transferred from California to Arizona may have ended up being fed to reptiles. Yes, you read that right – guinea pigs, mice, and rabbits becoming a feast for our slithery friends.

The Transfer

Tucson TV station KVOA first broke the story in September after investigating the whereabouts of 300 small animals that had been transferred from the overcrowded San Diego Humane Society to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona in Tucson. A collaboration between these two groups led to an unexpected turn of events when it was revealed that these innocent critters were then sent off to a man who ran a reptile breeding company. Perhaps not quite what they signed up for.

A Cold-Blooded Operation

According to reports by The Arizona Republic, this mysterious man not only bred reptiles but also sold live and frozen animals as feed for those very same creatures he was breeding. Talk about recycling! After all is said and done, 62 lucky little critters found their way back home while approximately 250 others are still unaccounted for – leaving us wondering if we should be checking under every rock in Tucson just in case.

All’s Fair In Love And War…And Animal Protection?

Humane Society of Southern Arizona board chair Robert Garcia expressed his dismay at a news conference held last Thursday stating “We could not have conceived something like this happening.” Well Mr. Garcia, welcome to the wild world of animal protection where anything seems possible (including your furry friends ending up on someone else’s dinner table).

Crisis at Home Base

In response to this fiasco within its own ranks – or should we say tanks – The Humane Society of Southern Arizona decided it was time for some restructuring. They promptly fired their CEO last month along with accepting the resignation of its chief operating officer amidst all this chaos.

A Legal Battle For Furry Justice?

The saga continues as The Humane Society of Southern Arizona is now considering legal actions against the slippery snake-man behind this whole mess (pun intended). Their internal investigation is expected next month so stay tuned folks!

San Diego Remains Under Investigation
