Unstoppable Domains Patent: Making the Internet More Centralized, One “Gasless” Transaction at a Time
The Statement Heard ‘Round the Crypto World
In a statement to CoinDesk, Unstoppable’s very own Gould had this to say about their groundbreaking patent:
“the patent is directly related to the technology we deployed for our original “.crypto” registry on Ethereum and is distinct to our use, including many inventions that make it easier for a centralized company like ours to run a domain registry, for example, gasless transactions by paying for gas for users which we have offered for four years now. This is not something any other naming system did at that time.”
Absolutely Revolutionary…or Not?
Let’s break this down real quick. So basically what Unstoppable Domains is saying here is that they’ve patented some technology that makes it easier for them – yes, THEM – as a centralized company (emphasis on centralized) to run their little domain registry thingy majiggy.
Oh! And let’s not forget about those “gasless transactions.” Apparently they’ve been offering this gem of an invention for four whole years now. Wowza! What would we do without such innovation?
Redefining Decentralization…One Patent at a Time
I don’t know about you guys but when I think of decentralization, I definitely think of patents and centralized companies making it easier for themselves while claiming it benefits everyone else too!
Hats off to Unstoppable Domains though – they really are out here redefining what it means to be decentralized one patent at a time.
The Irony Is Strong With This One
It’s just so rich how these companies claim to be all about decentralization and empowering individuals while simultaneously taking steps towards centralizing control over key aspects of the crypto space.
To Patent or Not To Patent? That Is The Question…
But hey! Who am I kidding? We all know that patents are just part and parcel of doing business in today’s world – even if your business revolves around promoting decentralization…right?
