President Joe Biden’s 2024 campaign is going all out to secure the endorsement of popstar Taylor Swift. According to the New York Times, she’s their top “target” for an endorsement. Because clearly, nothing says political power like a celebrity Instagram post.
In their report published on Monday, the Times’ Reid J. Epstein, Lisa Lerer, Katie Gleuck and Katie Rodgers reported that the Biden campaign is pulling out all stops in its desperate attempt to enlist celebrities, social media stars and former Democrat presidents to support Biden. And why not? It’s not like he has anything else going for him at this point.
The report comes as President Biden trails former President Donald Trump by 4.3 percent nationally in the RealClearPolling average and as his approval rating has reached historic lows – so naturally it makes perfect sense for him to seek validation from celebrities instead of actually doing something about it.
Chief among the Biden campaign’s endorsement prospects is none other than Taylor Swift herself:
“The biggest and most influential endorsement target is Ms. Swift,” reports The Times with a straight face (we assume). Apparently her single Instagram post led to 35,000 new voter registrations last year – because who needs actual policies when you can just rely on popstars?
Earlier in their article they wrote support from Swift would mark “the endorsement of [the campaign’s] wildest dreams.” While unclear how serious the claim is (it seems pretty clear), The Times notes it has been floated within the campaign that they could have President Biden attend one of her concerts – because what better way to appeal to voters than by having an old guy awkwardly dance around onstage while trying not pull a hip muscle?
But hold onto your hats everyone! A recent Redfield & Wilton poll shows that her potential political influence could be a wash! Nearly as many voters say her endorsement would push them away from candidates as those who say her backing would make them more likely to support a candidate!
According Newsweek’s poll released on Sunday found that 18 percent of respondents said Swift’s endorsement would make them “more likely” – but get this: nearly just as many respondents (17%) said they’d be less likely vote for someone backed by T-Swizzle herself! Which means she might actually be more effective at driving people away rather than attracting votes… oops.
And if you think everyone loves Tay-Tay then think again my friend! Turns out over half of respondents are NOT fans of hers according Newsweek Senior Writer Katherine Fung- which kind-of defeats whole purpose doesn’t it?
What’s more? An older Morning Consult poll showed only “55% avid swift fans are Democrats”. So much for shifting public opinion huh? But hey we guess every little bit helps when your presidential approval ratings are tanking faster than Bitcoin after Elon Musk tweets about it…
The Times also noted that this report comes right after some sexually explicit AI images featuring our dear Tay-Tay went viral last week… so congratulations Mr.President- I’m sure she’ll definitely want endorse YOU now!
So there you have folks- another day in American politics where politicians turn into groupies chasing after popstars’ endorsements while ignoring any real issues facing our country today…but hey let’s see if maybe next time he’ll go ask One Direction or BTS too!
