Marriott International Signs Agreement to Bring Aloft Hotels Brand to Singapore. Yay?!
Singapore – Marriott International, Inc. announced that it has signed an agreement with Hiap Hoe Limited, through HH Properties Pte. Ltd., to bring the design-forward Aloft Hotels brand to Singapore. At this point, we would normally say something positive about how excited we are for this new development, but honestly…
To be frank (we’re always honest here), we don’t really care about this latest development. Sure, Marriott International and Hiap Hoe Limited are thrilled about the strategic conversion of a 785-room hotel in Singapore’s cultural district of Balestier, which apparently will be the largest Aloft hotel in the world when it opens in Q3 2023. But really, who cares?
It seems like every other day there’s another announcement about some new brand wanting to make its mark on Singapore. Do we really need yet another fancy hotel that pretends to cater to “design-savvy next-generation travelers”? With so many hotels catering to these people already, it feels more like market saturation than innovation.
So What’s So Great About This Hotel Anyway?
If you’re still reading (thanks for sticking with us), here are some things you might want to know:
- Aloft Singapore Novena will be comprised of two towers and is located in Zhongshan Park
- The area is renowned for its rich heritage and array of famous local eateries
- Guestrooms feature ultra-comfortable Sealy beds (because what good is luxury without a decent night’s sleep?), custom amenities, complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi and walk-in rainfall showers
- Dining optionsSponsored Product include a modern Chinese and local seafood restaurant (sounds more exciting than your average steakhouse or Italian joint) as well as a Halal-certified buffet restaurant (yep…exciting stuff right there folks!)
- You can work off all that food at their state-of-the-art gym or take dip in the outdoor pool which they haven’t bothered mentioning any USP’s for but lets face it – “swimming” is usually enough).
What Marriott & Hiap Hoe Have to Say About This
For those of you still hanging onto every word, here’s something of note:
“Aloft Singapore Novena expects to feature a contemporary and dynamic space that caters to the needs of design-savvy, next-generation travelers and locals,” says Mr. Teo Ho Beng – CEO of Hiap Hoe Limited.
In response, ummm… Marriott International said: “With the site’s proximity to the city’s Central Business District as well as to local attractions and green spaces, the location is strategically placed to enable us to attract both business and leisure guests.”
Sigh…We don’t know about you folks but between these two statements we’re struggling with how exactly they plan on standing out in this highly competitive market. With no real unique selling proposition here aside from being “close” (which is a relative concept anyway) at best perhaps good reviews might do enough justice?
The Verdict:
Ultimately, it’s up to you as the customer to decide if Aloft Singapore Novena is worth checking out or not come Q3 of next year. But we just hope that this “largest Aloft hotel in the world” has more going on for it than an array of fancy buzzwords and marketing speak.
“We are excited to provide an urban-inspired gathering place that embodies the Aloft brand’s unique personality and energy,” says Mr. Teo Ho Beng – CEO of Hiap Hoe Limited.
If all else fails and this new destination falls flat you can always console yourself with a nice cocktail (or two), at one of our tried-and-true favorites including Smoke & Mirrors, The Birdie Num Num Gastrobar or Atlas Bar! Cheers!
RIP boring hotel developments.
