Well, well, well. Can you believe it? The incredible Alex Pereira is at it again.
After losing his precious UFC middleweight title to that show-off Israel Adesanya in April (Jealous much?), “Poatan” has decided to take on a whole new challenge and move up! Yes, folks, he’s moving on up to the 205-pound division in search of yet another shiny belt for his trophy case. Get ready because this madness will unfold on July 29 at UFC 291 when Pereira faces none other than former champ Jan Blachowicz.
Now, hold your horses! Before we get too caught up in the excitement of it all, let’s hear what professional doubter Anthony Smith has to say about this bold move by Mr. Pereira.
According to Smith (Mr. Buzzkill himself), Pereira might have a tough time with some of the top guys in the light heavyweight division. Talk about raining on someone’s parade! But hey, I guess Smith knows a thing or two being a longtime contender himself…or so he claims.
So here’s the deal: our hero Alex Pereira was once upon a time a two-division champion in GLORY Kickboxing (cue applause). Now he wants more glory (pun intended) and has set his sights on MMA domination. He wasted no time making an impact and scored four impressive wins under the UFC banner before achieving an epic fifth-round knockout against Adesanya last November and snatching that deserved middleweight belt away from him like it was candy from a baby! Oh yeah!
But wait for it…as with every fairy tale, there’s always a twist. Adesanya got his revenge and delivered a brutal knockout to shatter Pereira’s dreams of eternal glory (Oh, the irony). Now, our dashing striker is looking for redemption at light heavyweight. And let me tell you, my friends, that’s no walk in the park! The 20-pound difference between middleweight and light heavyweight is like trying to fit into your skinny jeans after eating Thanksgiving dinner – almost impossible!
Now, if Pereira can get past Blachowicz (with Smith doubting him and all), he might just enter into title contention. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves because there are still some heavy hitters in this division who have their own plans for dominance.
Smith believes that Jamahal Hill and Jiri Prochazka pose significant challenges for our hero Pereira. Is he underestimating our man? Or maybe he just likes picking favorites…
According to Smith (the self-proclaimed expert on everything), Jan Blachowicz is no joke when it comes to leg kicks. He defends them like nobody else in the UFC! I guess we should give credit where credit is due…but only if we feel like it.
And as if things couldn’t get any worse for poor old Alex: this guy Hill has some funky striking techniques up his sleeve! He’s practically Houdini with those dodging skills and an uncanny ability to defend kicks. Oh yeah, did I mention he also knows a thing or two about grappling? Talk about being a jack of all trades!
