Swedish telecom enterprise Ericsson will lay off eight,500 workers as element of its expense-cutting measures, the enterprise confirmed to CNBC on Friday.
Reuters earlier reported on the layoffs, which will effect roughly eight% of its employees of 105,529 worldwide. The enterprise employs about 11,994 people today in North America, according to its web site.
An Ericsson spokesperson mentioned the cuts had been element of an “acceleration of structural expense reductions efforts” as announced in the course of the company’s Capital Markets Day on Dec.15. The spokesperson mentioned most of the layoffs would take impact in the initial half of 2023, but could also extend into 2024.
“The way headcount reductions will be managed will differ based on neighborhood nation practice,” the spokesperson mentioned in a statement. “Our aim is to handle the course of action in each and every nation with fairness, respect, professionalism and in line with neighborhood labour legislation.
